Win my EFC Goalkeeper Top

Recently I ran a competition to win my signed Everton FC Goalkeeper top that I wore live on Sky Sports in the Masters competition in June of this year.

The competition was originally for the goalkeepers who uploaded their goalkeeping videos onto www.goalkeepercv.com but because there was problems with the database on this website, a lot could not upload.

So to give everyone a chance of winning, all you now have to do is email me at info@just4keepers.co.uk and in the subject line write 'Ray I want to win your EFC top'. Simple or what!

IMPORTANT: Do not write anything in the main body of the email as I will not have time to read all these emails. If you want a specific question answered, please send another email to me.

The only thing I ask if you are to participate and win, is you send me a picture of yourself wearing this top so I can add to the www.just4keepers.com website.

Competition ends October 30^th!

Good Luck

Are you superstitious???

Are you superstitious???

You will not believe how many emails i get about this topic. Alot of my goalkeeper students are worried that being superstitious before a game is bad.

Too be honest, its not and probably every sportsman, even the great sportsman and women of our time have all had a certain bit of superstitious!

I prefer to call this routine!

Before i played a game as a professional goalkeeper, from the day before I had a set rountine. even as i got change before the game, EVERY item I put on first was left.

Left goalkeeper glove
left sock
left boot
Left hand in sleeve
left leg in shorts etc etc
Even when i taped my socks up, it was always left first!

As i watched my fellow team mates also change for the game, i noticed that they too had a routine while they got changed for the game.

In fact, I had a team mate who had to run out LAST as we ran out onto the pitch, then we signed another player who also wanted to run out last. They actually nearly come to blows in the players tunnel because non of them would be prepared to run out second to last.

So (seriously) they agreed to run out shoulder to shoulder before each game. mad but true.

So if you think you are superstitious, do not worry as I actually think this is a good thing because you are telling your mind you are preparing for a game, which can only be a good thing!

I hope this goalkeeping tip helped?

Anyone for Tennis?

One of my students contacted me recently worried about what his team gk coach was doing with him.

The Gk coach basically had him goal and with a tennis racket, from different angles and distances smashed tennis balls at him.

He asked me, was this good?

My answer is yes (as long as the gk coach explains the benefits). And also that he does not do too much of this type of training. Reason why i say this
is some gk coaches cannot serve very good, and improving as a young goalkeeper is all about the quality of service you get from your coach.

Some goalkeeper coaches use this as a smoke screen to their poor service and even though it makes your goalkeeper training session good fun when your coach bring different training
materials, like the gk rebounder, deflection balls, tennis rackets, etc, these have to be used in moderation.

I am all about making my training session as realistic to a gmae situation as i can, and for example, you do not face a shot from a gk rebounder in a gme situation.

So if your gk coach uses ALOT of different apparatus in your gk sessions,

1: Make sure, he is not use these appartus too much

2: Ask him, what are the benefits (a good coach will explain, a) the benefits and b) more importantly how it would benefit uou in a game situation.

I hope this tip helped?

Get Padded up for Summer leagues

Quick Tip Guys:

I know a lot of you are playing (Or about to start playing summer leagues). Just make certain that you get padded up. Especially your hips, knees and elbows as this time of year can be really tough on a goalkeeper, especially a young goalkeeper.

So parents and managers, PLEASE use common sense and make sure the young goalkeepers have the proper padding while they play! It is not expensive and it makes the goalkeepers job so much more enjoyable!

Always take 2 pairs fo gloves to your soccer game

Quick Tip:

When I played, especially at grass

root level I ALWAYS took 2 pairs of goalkeeper gloves onto the field.

One gloves was my best glove and the other was the cheaper of the range glove..

When I got to the soccer game, the first thing i would do is check the pitch out. If it was a good surface i would use my expensive gloves. But if it was a poor soccer field, hard ground with no grass or full of mud, I would use my cheaper gloves.

Because if you play on a poor soccer pitch, it does not matter if you play with a pair of $1000 gloves on... they will probably not do the job.

This is because a poor soccer field can be a leveller when it comes to wearing goalkeeper gloves. Especially if you live in the UK... YOU NEED TO TAKE TWO PAIRS!!!

Also it should save you ALOT of money throughout the season doing this because you actually spend less money on gloves!!
