Just4keepers Netherlands

Recently I was invited to the Netherlands which is run by the director of J4K Holland Marcel Loer

Marcel Ran a fantastic Goalkeeper course where 40 goalkeeper students where in attendance. This was held in one of the most beautiful places I have visited, Groningen, North Holland. The venue was excellent and the goalkeeper students where a credit to their parents and to Marcel who ran one of the best goalkeeper courses I have attended.

This was a nice touch from Marcel. He had the English flag where J4K began over a decade ago and the Dutch flag. Marcel had a Goalkeeper diving from the English flag to the Dutch, as a sign that J4K is now very much in Holland. Do not let people play behind your goal:

I use to hate this when I played as a youngsetr

You are trying to concentrate on your game while playing and you have local kids using the back of your goal for their goal!

This can be VERY off putting!

Especially when they kick their ball on the pitch and they ask you to kick it back. If you have watched my videos on the importance of concentrating, you will understand that a little lapse of concentration for a keeper can result in a goal!!!

So what do you do?

It’s not worth you arguing with them and asking them to move (because some will not move). Instead pre-warn your manager, coach or parent. Explain what you have read here and that you want NOBODY playing behind your goal.

If you can educate others that is not cool these guys using your goal as their goal when you play, hopefully these local kids will get moved on swiftly, allowing you to focus 100% on what you are doing!

J4K Coaches Go ape!

Recently some of the J4K coaches got together for a team building day at GO APE. I will not mention names but some of our so called brave professional goalkeepers go vertigo just 6ft up climbing the trees. lol

One Just4keepers Goalkeeper Coach  clung to a tree 30ft in he air for close to 45 minutes until he was rescued. So calling all Just4keepers Students ask your J4K coach  was he the tree hugger???

Tips to buy Goalkeeper Gloves in Ireland

Trying to pick correct goalkeeper gloves in Ireland is becoming a very tough decision because of the amount of goalkeeper brands now hitting our shores.

Most goalkeeper gloves you now see are generally very good but you have to make sure you do not buy the wrong pair as it might end up costing you many many goal's!

So you need to pick the right pair for you!!!

Two pairs of boots!

 Recently a GK contacted me because of a nightmare game he had!

 

The pitches had been wet for weeks, so he was playing in his soccer boots with studs. However after 3 weeks off through no games he played again this weekend.

 

He took his normal boots but because there had been no rain, the ground was solid.

 

He explained to me he was in that much pain wearing these long studs on the hard ground he could hardly move around in his goal and thus conceeded 4 sloppy goals!

 

The moral of this story is fellow goalkeepers, is be prepared!

 

If you can and finances allow it, always take a 2 pairs of goalkeeper boots to a game. One with studs (for soft ground) and the other pair blades or moulded studs (for hard ground).

 

This way, you can wear the boots that best suit the playing surface. Now most goalkeepers take at least 2 pairs of gloves to soccer games to combat different playing conditions, and boots should be no different. SO BE PREPARED!

 

Especially if you are playing on grassroot pitches like we get here in the UK, which are a disgrace! You never know what the playing surface is like until you actually get to the venue!

NOW THATS A TESTIMONY!!!

 Hi Ray,

I have to drop you an e-mail as I feel I owe you an apology - usually I believe the old adage about "if something appears too good to be true, it usually is" was invented for a very good reason; and is something I have learned to believe in. And so I must admit, when you offered to sponser my son's gloves I was somewhat sceptical - there was part of me that thought that either there would be some excuse made about giving away the second pair free, or that the gloves would be such a poor quality that they weren't worth having.

   But, oh my God, was I so wrong!

 I placed our first order yesterday morning for one pair of the Reaction gloves - I purposely ordered your cheapest pair first, just in case the sceptical side of me was right - and am now totally amazed. Not even 24 hours after placing the order, my postman has just delivered my son's gloves - not the one pair I had paid for and  was half expecting, but the two pairs you had promised him. I was even more amazed when I actually took them out of the bags and discovered that they weren't cheap, tacky, second-rate gloves, but were of a quality just as good, if not better, than the Puma gloves my son normally wears and which cost almost double the price!

I was totally wrong about you and your offer of sponsorship, and for that I offer you my sincere apologies - it makes a refreshing change to find someone that does what they say they will, and are not out just to make as much for themselves as they can. You're a true gentleman!

 I now look forward to enrolling my son in one of your coaching schools, and of spreading the word of your company and its fantastic offer to all other goalkeepers  we come into contact with. And I will most definitely be placing another order in the near future - this time, for the gloves my son actually wanted!

Message to parents

This is a message for a Parent of a Goalkeeper

 

If you are a parent who stands behind your childs goal, PLEASE STOP this NOW!

 

You think you are helping but you are not. alot of children feel pressured when their parent stands behind them, especially a parent who just yells!

 

Now I know in some cases children who are very young or under confident will probably need you there... but please only shout positives!!!!

 

DO NOT BE NEGATIVE. Otherwise you might not as well be there!

 

Ideally, you should stand at the side of the pitch and shout instructions and encouragment!

 

Remember the position of goalkeeper can be a stressfull place at the best of times, and with managers and team mates quick to blame the keeper... don't you add to this pressure!

 

SO BE POSITIVE!

One Dedicated Goalkeeper

Over my 20 years a goalkeeper coach I have seen some very dedicated keepers, and some not so dedicated.

But NOTHING like Adam Hope from Australia! 

He flew from Cairns to Sydney, which is a 3 hour flight just to be coached by Just4keepers Goalkeeper Coach Ron Tilsed. And this is not all, he flew home the same day!!!!!

This is amazing to travel well OVER one 1000 miles in ONE DAY for goalkeeper training!

Its funny really because I have lost count how many times people have told me they cannot make a training session because it was more than a 20 minute drive! lol

At the end of the day, it is all down to being committed to chasing your dream and Adam certainly has all the dedication to give himself a chance of becoming a professional goalkeeper.

I always say to my students 'If you want to be better than the average... you have to do more than the average!'

Well Adam Hope certainly did more than average! Well done ADAM!!!

I just thought I would share this inspiring story with you!
